Social Media Policy

Purpose and foundation
Social media has become an integral part of the lives of many in our society and something which we as a denomination cannot ignore in its relevance or usefulness.

The NSPCI recognises that many of our churches and members wish to have an online presence and participate in the world of social media.  We encourage and support the use of such a dynamic, multi-faceted and engaging forum and view it with positivity and offering much potential.  As the online world continues to expand and develop, providing a range of forums and applications in which we can partake, it is important that the NSPCI maintains a relevant, contemporary voice which reflects our church, its members and its traditions.  We believe that we have a responsibility to spread our message as far and wide as possible, including taking our place in the mission field of the online world.

Safeguarding Report

In May 2017 AccessNI carried out a complete inspection of our safeguarding policies and practices. While the results of this were very positive, especially for such a small organisation, there were some minor amendments which AccessNI requested.

AccessNI requested that we create policies on the handling of disclosure information and the employment of people with criminal records. I worked with AccessNI to draft policies which meet their requirements and these were presented to GPC for clearance in September.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) takes effect across Europe from 25 May 2018. It replaces the existing law on data protection and gives individuals more rights and protection in how their personal data is used by organisations.
There must be a valid lawful basis in order to process personal data. There are six available lawful bases for processing. Which basis is most appropriate will depend on your purpose and relationship with the individual. The majority of data held by the Denomination should be held under the basis of consent, such as a permission slip for photography during youth activities, or legal obligation, e.g a safeguarding referral.
